Wade - #08-059
Male - 1 1/2 years
Wade is a very lanky, long-legged young dog who was found as a stray by animal
control. He came to rescue with severe skin issues, which are not difficult to
treat, but which will take some time to heal. He also is very underweight and
we are working hard to help him gain much-needed pounds.
His skin issues and extremely low weight make Wade look less-than-gorgeous
right now, but they are not are not affecting his quality of life. He is happy,
active and playful. Wade could be adopted right away if he found an experienced
family who knew how to give medication and basic training; in the meantime, his
foster family is helping him get better every day.
Wade is a boisterous, bouncy boy, excitable and full of energy. Like any young
dog, he loves to run, run, run, and wrestle with his foster siblings. He does
very well with the resident cat. He bounces up to her, says hello, and then
bounces away to find a toy to play with. He is a big goofy, happy guy, who
makes his foster mom laugh every day.
He has shown himself to be very cooperative (even when he’s given his
medication which has a bitter taste), and eager to please. He is learning the
rules of the house: wait at the door to be invited in, sit for treats, relax on
the dog bed when he’s not being petted or played with, potty outside, etc. It
appears that before coming to rescue Wade had very little or no training, so it
is really a delight to see him begin to understand what is asked of him. Foster
mom believes with one-on-one attention and training, Wade will excel.
Wade will do very well in a home as an only dog, as he truly enjoys being with
people, but he is fine with other dogs as well. Wade would do best in a home
with older children because of his size and energetic nature. And he is a very
busy young man who is always looking for something to do, so he will need a
family who is as active as he is. Finally, he needs a family who will be
committed to completing his obedience training.
Wade has lots of potential and is just waiting for a home of his own to share
his enthusiasm for life with. As his health improves, Wade will soon be ready
for a forever home, so check back often.
