Shelly - #08-083
Female - 2 years

Shelly is a medium-sized 2 year old female with a luxurious, light-colored coat. The family that gave her up said “they didn’t bond” with her. We’re guessing that Shelly developed some bad habits and the family was unable or unwilling to deal with them. Some of her habits have already begun to resolve themselves in foster care, and with consistent love, attention and patience, Shelly should grow out of these habits easily.

Her foster family says that Shelly is a very sweet girl and is a pretty “easy” dog. She likes to be where her people are and wants attention, but will entertain herself with a ball or chew bone if you aren’t petting her. She has a medium energy level, plays very well with other dogs and likes to wrestle. She won’t compete for a ball, but if she’s with you by herself, she will retrieve.

Shelly is potty trained and almost crate trained. Initially, she doesn't want to go in her crate, but if you put a leash on and take her to the crate, she will walk in voluntarily; whines a little at first, and then quiets down quickly. She doesn’t seem to have gotten any other training, so she’ll need to learn to come when called, etc.

Most of Shelly’s bad habits involve getting attention. She will jump up on you, but now she’s being taught to sit instead, and she’s catching on well to that. She also mouths quite a bit… putting her mouth on you to play or to stop you from brushing her, etc. And she “collects” socks and shoes. All of these behaviors will respond well to patient behavior management and training.

Shelly is good with older children, but she should not be in a home with cats (she’s a little too interested).

Shelly just needs a family who will take the time to train her and consistently show her what good behavior is expected of her. She’s eager to please, so once she learns to trust that she will get all the love and attention she wants and deserves, the “good dog” inside of her will come out to love and to play.
