Jetta - #08-027
Female - 2 years
Meet Jetta! She’s an adorable 2 year old redhead who is absolutely convinced
she was born to be a lap dog! And if your lap isn’t available, she’s more than
willing to settle for snuggling up on the couch with you instead. When gently
reminded to stay on the floor, she’ll give you the saddest look and then lie on
your feet.
Jetta is extremely affectionate and LOVES to be petted and rubbed. If she feels
she’s not getting enough attention, she’ll poke you with her paw as a reminder
that “Ahem, you’ve stopped petting me!”. She is calm and gentle when being
petted and would make a good Therapy Dog Candidate.
Jetta is a silly girl who loves to roll on her back growling ferociously, which
is amusing considering there isn’t an aggressive bone in her body. She has
shown absolutely no possessiveness over her food or toys with either people or
other dogs. She has been known to steal a sock or hand towel and run away with
it, but she’ll give it back when asked.
Jetta has had a lot of changes in her life. She was picked up as a stray by
animal control and adopted out, but immediately returned when the family found
out that she was Heartworm Positive AND pregnant. She was picked up by rescue
and taken to a vet where she had 8 puppies. She was then placed in one foster
home until the puppies were weaned, and finally, moved to her current foster
home a few weeks ago. Jetta has now been spayed and will be starting Heartworm
treatment soon.
Because of all these moves, Jetta tends to be a bit clingy and will follow you
around wherever you go. She just wants to be where you are. She will go into
her crate on command and sleep quietly all night but doesn’t like to be left
alone while crated. She’s completely well behaved in the house, so crating
isn’t really necessary except during her heartworm treatment.
The great news is that she is an easy dog to have around. She’s house trained
and doesn’t pull when walking on a leash. Jetta is also extremely smart and has
picked up on her basic obedience commands very quickly. She gets along well
with her two foster sisters and enthusiastically wrestles and plays “bitey
face” with the younger of the two. She loves the water and will play in the
hose spray. But she has absolutely no interest in retrieving a tennis ball.
Although curious about the indoor cat, she leaves her alone.
Jetta could go to her forever home now if the right family was found, as long
as they were willing to take her through 8 weeks of Heartworm treatment. She
will definitely need a home with a stay at home parent who’s will work on
building her confidence and who has other dogs to play with. We’re working on
her separation anxiety, and she’s coming along great, but getting her into her
forever home will help a lot to restore her confidence.
Jetta is just about perfect, except for her fear of being left alone, and a
family with a little time and lots of love is the best medicine for her. She’s
a well-behaved, sweet cuddle bug who’s just looking for that forever home where
she’ll never have to move again.
