Dodge - #08-050
Male - 1 year
Dodge is a golden on steroids. We named him Dodge because he's as big as a
truck – he's Marmaduke in silky gold XXL coat.
He's perfection in all that anyone could want in a golden, except that he does
drool. And drink lots of water. Sloppily. Better have a towel handy.
The sketchy story we have is that he came from a home in Weatherford, and for
some reason was too big for his owner/s to take care of. They tried to have a
neighbor or another friend take him in, but he was then passed on to GRR via
the Weatherford shelter a short time later.
This guy is a big teenage pup, basically. As laid back as any golden could be,
by his foster Dad's best guess, he's probably around one or two years old. He's
lanky, tall, and has HUGE paws, so one can almost imagine what he might grow
into. We pretty much figure he's reached his max, except for filling out a bit
more. You'd think he'd have a huge appetite, but his foster’s 14 year old
golden oldie can wipe out a bowl of kibble faster than this guy does.
He's patient and easy, knows fairly well how to sit, and is wonderful at
sitting up and shaking with both hands. Currently, his foster Dad is teaching
him to be patient before heading out the gate or door, and how to ring the bell
when he wants to go outside. He's not a counter cruiser or a trash bagger, and
is completely trustworthy in the house. He’s never had an accident in the
house, he isn't crated, and can be left in the house for hours without so much
as nibbling on a pillow or anything else within reach. While his foster Dad
does allow him on the bed at night and in the early AM, he sleeps faithfully on
his bed or anywhere its cool, now that its starting to warm up a bit.
He's a golden in slow motion when you toss a ball for him. As you can imagine,
he doesn't run so much as he lopes. He's great with other dogs (he’s out on a
ranch right now), good on a leash, and has a keen interest in the neighbors cat
(without going nuts wanting to chase her). Cows and horses on the ranch don't
intimidate him in the least, so we think he could be integrated easily into a
"cat" household.
In short, if you want a young gentle giant who’s easy to be around and easy to
love, Dodge is a super-sized answer to your dreams.
